The beginning, it really has to signal the genre. And I guess it should also tie in with the cover. If I had to choose between an incredibly beautiful cover that sort of misled readers what the book was about and like a pretty plain basic cover that actually matched what the content of the book was, I would choose the planer cover. The best way to get your reader to cry is not to show a character crying. That actually doesn't transfer. But if you show them in a situation where we think we would feel sad, then we're going to feel that sadness whether they are crying or not.
