CHAPTER

The Role of Ionic Solutes in Water Chemistry

Part of the story there is this polarity of the water molecule, right? So one side of water, the oxygen side is slightly negative, the hydrogen side is positive. That helps water break down these other substances by pulling them apart on their positive and negative sides. And as Tisha was saying earlier, more of these hydrogen bonds form between the water molecules, and the result is that it really turns into a crystal. When all the hydrogen bonds you can have formed, you have these hexagonal structures in water - like snowflakes.
