The Importance of Long Lenses in Filmmaking
The planes are almost all being shot in Nevada at an Air Force base. And the backgrounds are, you know, blurred into infinity. When you do see clouds and stuff, you're whipping by so fast because you're on this long lens. It makes the planes feel like they're going faster. So there's another practical reason that Tony Scott's using long lenses. He has to hide where they actually are when we're filming the plane stuff. That's just practical filmmaking. That's what every film has to do.
