The MTR in Hong Kong is very much a it's it is a subway company, but it also is a real estate developer. In Los Angeles, Henry Huntington would buy up acres of worthless land and then run a line through it. The difference is in the 1920s in the United States and Canada, it was basically assumed that there was no other alternative to public transport.
