Is It a Mix of Fear and Sham?
Mathewson: I was really struck by that connection between fear and shame. We see her early on in the chapter where she is described as both distraught and having nightmares. She's, i think, experiencing both shame and fear. And even the the text is isolating her becau making the reader not see what's going on like this.
