Why This Universe?

CHAPTER

The Magnetic Moment of the Muon

Physicists have been trying to measure the magnetic moment of the muon for a very long time. In early 2000, an experiment at Brookhaven National Lab on Long Island studied how these muons responded to a magnetic field. The number they measured was different than the standard model prediction by a few parts per million. By measuring this number, we're actually seeing indications of new laws of physics that we don't currently know about.
