The Chauvet Cave in Southern France

A rock fall sealed the Chauvet cave from any further human or animal habitation until it was discovered in the 90s by a trio of spelunkers. Because Lasko has been badly damaged by indiscriminate tourism, lots of people in a confined space breathing and screwing up moisture. So as a result, the French government locked a Chauvet cave down. Even the scientists actions and movements are very tightly controlled. There's a narrow like a two foot wide ish steel catwalk. You could only be there for a couple of hours at a time. And so Herzog was functioning under tight restrictions.
