The Importance of De-Variance in Blood Group Systems
In a de-variance, does that de-variant have the potential when exposed to make an anti-D or not? That's a fairly simple way to look at. We would consider a serologic weak D phenotype as anybody that had a discordant result and now you're typing them as RHD negative. Those individuals were very, very, very unlikely to make an entity and that we should call them RHD positive. And then, um, well, then also included in those recommendations is that when you had done RHD genotyping and we determined that it was a weak D type one, type two or type three, those people could be transfused with RHD
