Cognitive Distorsions of Depression
There are many cognitive aspects of depression beyond simply flat-athlete or feeling down. Many depressed patients experience a variety of cognitive distortions and deficits that are related to and help to propound and worsen their depressive symptoms. These include selective abstraction, personalization as well as arbitrary inference. All reinforce negative views about the self which can potentially spiral downwards in people with depression.
