Progress and Poverty by Henry George

The author opens his book with a quote from the 19th century. Henry George was an extraordinary critic of 19th century, let's say, fair capitalism. The kind of free market capitalism that he criticized and the height of the gilded age is exactly the same kind of economic system many critics coming into the 21st century had in their sights. And so we are in a period where we were recognizing many of the same issues that George brought to the fore as a working class activist.
