All institutions are always going to have a gap between what they are and what god ends for them. Democracy is built on the recognition that this gap exists rit it is built on this recognition that, as madison said in the federalist, angels do not rule over men. And so therefore we need to have checks and balances. We need to have the rule of law. It's actually, in some ways, a very humble form of o humble and self aware form of government That recognizes you can't ever escape the gap this side of the kingdom of heaven coming coming on earth. The quest to try to do it might be so dangerous that you're going to create something truly awful.
