The Effects of News Sentiment on Consumer Sentimence

The Federal Reserve of San Francisco publishes a daily news sentiment, and as you can see in this chart that John Henley made, comparing news sentiment and news, they move pretty much in lockstep. News coverage has also been pretty negative and has tended to pull consumer sentiment down with it. There is always going to be households who rack up unsustainable levels of credit card debt, regardless of the economic environment. Right now things look pretty good as far as collective consumers concerned from a debt perspective.
