Polsoximeters - Should I Buy a Pulse Oximeter?
Pulse oximeters work by shining light through your finger tips. Do they work for people of all different skin colours? That's the great question. There was a study using oximeters in patients in the intens if cani, and what they found was the early signs that there may be a discrepancy with what is picked up with black skin versus white skin. We haven't corroborated this with our own data at scale in the n h s but we are urgently studying this. What we have found right from the start of this disease is that the base line levils are really important.
