Is It a Good Idea to Be a Scientist?

I find it hard not to be kind of mesmerized by that almost emerging behavior where you look at a single neuron and you can understand its behavior very clearly. There's kind of the biological analog. You're like, okay, this thing just takes a set of inputs. And then you throw a bunch of them together and look at what it does. It's kind of fascinating just to have to think about how that could possibly occur. I like to have my work have the potential of being useful, but it doesn't have to be the starting motivation. For now, I'm kind of in the middle, I guess.
