Different Types of Connective Tissue

The extracellular matrix is non-living and it's often mostly water but there's other important elements in there as well which we'll talk about later on. The type of matrix or the type, the stuff between the cells is often a very important determining factor in what distinguishing the different types of connective tissues and also their function. Collagen is just a protein that's very strong and stiff but also sort of flexible depending on how it's joined up and what type of collagen it is used to support cells and tissues.
