The Athenians Turned to Solon to Resolve the Crisis
Solon flourished in the late seventh and early six centuries BC. He was considered one of the seven sages of the Archaic period. Solon had gained much popularity during Athens' continuous war against the Magarians over Salimas. After repeated disasters, Solon was able to increase the morale of his troops on the strength of a poem that he wrote about Salim as well.
