Is There Such a Thing as an Algorithm?
Computer scientists have a good knack for not getting tripped up over these questions because, um, they don't care about a privilege substrate or privileged hierarchy level. We just find ways to build logic gates and that opens up expansively the space of things that can be done. The easiest way to think about this is that, well, evolution makes sure that we only see organisms with certain kinds of goals. Everything else that had other goals died out in the, in the fight for survival.
