Jung's Vision of Elijah and Salome
Elijah is said to have lived in northern Israel during the 9th century BC. Salome became a symbol of the temptress, luring away those who are on the road to salvation. Jung later writes, the way of life rides like the serpent from right to left and from left to right. The struggle between these two ways of living puts Jung in the center of an existential conundrum.
