The Crusading Recruitment Frenzy
When Richard takes the cross in 1187, it brings its own set of problems. He didn't exactly discuss this with anyone before he committed to going crusading. Henry's reaction is on record - all royal businesses were suspended for four days. As troublesome as Richard has been recently, he's always been by far the most capable of the Plantagenet boys. If Richard doesn't come back, God forbid, then John will end up in line to inherit the whole thing.
