The Power of Metaphor

When I say I want to be able to see the author in the piece, sometimes that is very obvious. But other times it's like layered through many, many filters of metaphor. So I think about N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth books which are just a searing portrait about of marginalization of oppression and colonialism. And it was very transformative for me of understanding how an author's experience can completely inform a text without being legible on what specific thing mat to what.
