The Shadow of the Warrior
The warrior is required to stand up against your own sense of inner critic. The sadist within the shadow of the warrior can feel a sense of disgust and repulsion against it. And so we also see this show up in men who have the sadist version of the warrior archetype, like workaholics. On the other hand, the masochist is sort of like the cowardly part of the hero's shadow. It is the one that almost enjoys being powerless or consumed by being pushover.
