The Current State of the Streaming Ecosystem
The streaming ecosystem in general has been in development and in some measure of active use for on the order of a decade plus. In many ways, it looks a little bit like a snapshot of where it was 10 years ago. I think there are a few things that are missing still. Another challenge is that streaming is still various sort of events by events. And then finally, there's something that I think as important as partitioning is: You have to choose a topic you want to work with.
Summary
Batch vs. streaming is a long running debate in the world of data integration and transformation. Proponents of the streaming paradigm argue that stream processing engines can easily handle batched workloads, but the reverse isn't true. The batch world has been the default for years because of the complexities of running a reliable streaming system at scale.
