archaeology could actually contribute much more in the material. We do know that people from Scandinavia started to make their way down the eastern river routes and establishing trading settlements from the 8th century onwards. One of the first of these is Stalia Lardiger near modern-day in Petersburg which allowed for access to the Baltic Sea trading networks. Soon after, other similar sites and artefacts began to appear along the river networks. And in these areas, the Scandinavian met and interacted with the Slavic people.
