The Discipline of Fred Rayler
Iver Davis, a British journalist who was friends with Fred in Malibu. He says Rayler's approach to parenting set him apart and made him vulnerable to criticism. When I visited Fred's daughters in Colorado over the summer, they were full of stories about his unusual discipline. Heidi pulled out a brick, wrapped in a piece of paper with a little monster face drawn on it, and the words, cold prickly, in Fred's handwriting.
