Using a Police Radar to Clock Raindrops

A 1970s police radar was modified so that it could be plugged into a computer. It can record the Doppler output of raindrops falling in squall lines. "That's kind of citizen science at its most basic," says John Defterios, who is writing a paper about radars. He hopes to do some more modification with snow this weekend.
