The Branding of the Self - When You Are the Product
The new age of work in the 21st century means we are all free agents who must brand ourselves competitively to be professionally and financially successful. The act of branding traditionally means to burn a symbol onto something. There is a sense of permanence and narrowness associated with the brand. Most people don't fit into narrow, sensible boxes the same way a brand positioning statement for proctor and gamble does. It has become trite in the social media world to acknowledge that if you're not paying for the product, it's because you are the product.
