More than 30 million tons of seaweed was produced around the world in 20 19. Up until 20 15, zanzibar was one of the top ten global producers of the plant. But recent years have been hard for farmers due to climate change. Warm water puts the plants in a state of shock and produces chemicals that bruise them. And when this happens, the seaweed rots and disintegrates.
