Google's closure script is written in the right style. But when you want to use a third party JavaScript library, which again, does not follow Google closures coding style, it can't be optimizable for them. So many libraries that exist out there are available now mainly through NPM and shadow came up with a reasonable way to pull things in from NPM. It never tries to put that stuff through advanced compilation. Externs Inference makes interacting with Webpack based on dependency processing trivial.
