How to Recognize Your Own Personal Filler Words

Filler words fill the same role, to plug gaps in our speech when we are thinking or hesitating. Recognizing these words is the first step towards reducing or even eliminating them from your speech. Filler words can be a form of self-expression and help us pause, slow down and organise our thoughts while speaking. Using too many filler words can make it difficult for listeners to understand what you are saying and retain information. The Harvard Business Review found that using one or two filler words a minute is the optimal or best amount.
