How Do You Make Maps for Your Writing?

I think every writer needs a map of some kind if they're dealing with a small space. My second book is set on a small tropical island in the south pacific, and there are like three different characters running round the island,. And i was literally losing my mind writing that book. Unless you're naturally really good at visualizing three spaces in your head over time, lie a map would probably be helpful. I am definitely not one of those people. E my, my partner has a super power where he always knows where he is. And he has like a compass in his head. If i say, which way is north, he can point north, no matter where we are.
