The Relationship Between the Liberals and the French Revolution

The french revolution is like a film flickering at the back of everybody's heads and they all have different narratives. People are playing this revolution through in many many different ways in their heads but it's present there as well as a kind of trauma for many people. The man who falls in 1848 having failed to concede the demand for franchise extension was guillotined by his father when he was five years old. Several of the new constitutions created in 1848 outlaw capital punishment. These are echoes of traumatic memories of the french revolution which was remembered among other things for the huge numbers of people executed on the orders of the revolutionary tribunals.
