Augustine says he keeps quoting scripture that the mouth that lies lays the soul and for him the main reason is because this is a perversion. For a human society to function there has to be a general presupposition that we can trust each other and if we lie then we undermine that basis of our society. The catechism mentions that even today the right of communication of the truth is not unconditional you know so what does this mean how far do we push this?
