Is Transparency a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

The sacramento b published the salaries of every california state employee. People who were a below average when they learned that other people were making much more than them felt very dissatisfied. Ironically, it didn't feel overjoyed at the fact that they were doing so well. Their reaction was just sort of neutral. So they weren't any happier, but the people at the bottom were made more unhappy. If if your idea is that a pay in equity increases performance, you should want total transparency. And yet, what we have is a system in which most companies, most organizations, want to keep their pay in equality secret....
