Darius was not descended from Cyrus. He claims that he has liberated the throne from an imposter, a liar who tried to steal Persia for himself. There were a lot of rebellions and uprisings in the early years of Darius's reign. It looks like he felt that he needed to record for all of time that he was the legitimate king.
