The Role of Hotspur in Henry IV Part One
I was drawn to Hotspur as a character, first and foremost. And then I also realized that the story I wanted to tell with the Prince, thematically the story is about the roles that we feel pressured to play for other people. Shakespeare is a fun way to explore that because people often come to Shakespeare with expectations. It's expected to be done in a certain way; it has a lot of weight and it's very important to the nation. That's kind of the journey that Hotspur is going on.
