Corey Silverman-Rawati is a senior fellow at the Saban Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University. He's been studying the two dozen or so cases filed against fossil fuel companies by local governments who are trying to recover some of the costs from dealing with climate disruption. In 2017, cities, counties, and states all across the country started filing suits in state courts against oil majors.
