Is There a Higher Stage Than You Are?
There's some kind of a shadow reciprocity between people who use stages to judge people and people who judge stages because they're judgmental. I think one of the most important things is the different developmental lines and different styles of development moving through these stages. And there's this interesting ongoing body of expert knowledge around unfolding cognitive complexity. So many people run into stages first, either as a sign of their own next step or as a danger that reminds them of pre-modern and modern hierarchies like genocides.
