Web Components - What's the Future of the Web?

I think we have reached a point where the platform's complexity is getting out of hand. There seems to be a lot of acrimony between the different brows ofenders that is actively hampering harmonious standards work from proceeding. The web is something that belongs to all of us, and yet the only people who have any meaningful say over the direction that it envolves in are browser vendors. And so truthfully, i'm a little despondent about about the future of theweb. I hope that i am unduly pessimistic. But it's hard to see a really obvious path out of the mess that we found ourselves in recently.
