In 1839, an opium war takes place and China is now totally open to foreigners. By the 1850s, opium trade becomes parton and parcel of almost all global merchants in India. Until 1909, you could go to any pharmacy in London, New York or Paris and say to the pharmacists, you have a headache they will give you an opium dose.
