I think that you can only steal man a good faith argument. And the problem is we now know that we have not been engaged in opponents who were wielding good faith arguments because privately their emails reflect their own doubts. What they were doing publicly was actually a punishment, a public punishment for those of us who spoke up. I don't want to see racism of any kind. But once you create license to lie in order to protect individuals when the world has a stake in knowing what happened, then it is inevitable that that process, that license to lie will be used by the thing that captures institutions for its own purposes. So my sense is it may be very unfortunate if the story of what happened
