The Pre-Rational Commitment to Capital
The West is committed to capital, and if there isn't a financial incentive to do something, it's very unlikely to be done. There really hasn't been that much in terms of profound technological advancement in the last 50 years. If you don't know a lot of energy, you can't fly around. It's that simple. And so this fact that energy use flatline in the 70s, that's a very significant fact.
