Stone came to Rome and so did terracotta roof tiles, two materials that survived much better than organic debris in the archaeological record. This was a time of exceptionally rich tombs elsewhere nearby in both Etruria and Latium. Long before it had a Mediterranean Empire, Rome was already a special place on the cusp of becoming something much greater. We'll leave Italy behind and head west toward Iberia to witness the creation of another incredibly sophisticated but almost completely forgotten society, the Tartesseans.
