The Northern Island Protocol Bill, a Planned New Law
The north iseland protocol was agreed to avoid a hard border on the island of ireland. It does enshrine Northern Ireland's role in the united kingdom and its single market. But it also means there will always be a division between northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. The government has been trying to negotiate a solution with the european commission for yonks, but hasn't really got there. So they are now legislating out of sorrow rather than an somebody put it to me earlier.
