The Life and Times of Marcus Tolia Cicero

Marcus Tolia Cicero was born in Arpium, 60 miles south of Rome. In 75 BC he was elected quaester for Sicily and took on a politically dangerous case against the Roman governor of Sicily. While in Greece he was put into contact with the masters of Greek philosophy and rhetoric. He perfected a unique oratorical style that would make him the acknowledged master of his day. But as much as he contributed to the cultural enrichment of Rome, Cicero saw himself primarily as a politician.
