I think one of the best skills you can get is being comfortable, not knowing all the words. If I read a book, like pretty much any book I read there will be words I don't know. Then sometimes I'll look up the meaning, but usually I'm like, nah, it's not important. On this speaking exam, you have to use idiomatic language. Phrasal verbs count as well,. But you've got to use some idioms to show that you have a grasp of idiomatic language and are good at using them.
