We consider addiction a bio-psychosocial model, but we don't really look at the bio part of it. When you see someone white knuckling, their sobriety, that's because we never looked at the physiology. So I started with looking at neurotransmitters and hormones and seeing what the relationships were there. We've now gotten to a lifestyle. SSRI drugs were not meant to be long term. They were for an acute situation. You know, and I am not anti pharmaceutical whatsoever. There's a time when it should be used. It saves lives, but we tend to abuse them in this country. We really do.
