The American Lotus: A Native Plant

Lily also refers to a gigantic group of plants, which are the family lilyaceae. Lilies don't even belong to that, right? So in terms of like what we know about their evolutionary relationships, it's totally unrelated. A big thing that's worth noticing here is if you see an oak leaf fall into the water, it might float there for a little while. After a day or so, what does it do? It sinks to the bottom. These lily pads are big leaves, right? I mean, for a circle, they're pretty big in diameter and filled with air. They have specific tissue that serves that purpose of providing buoyancy.
