What's going to happen now that a cyclone has ripped the guts out of many households, communities, and farms? Clearly some money's going to be spent on fixing things up - will this be inflationary? Should the official cash rate (increased to reduce inflationary pressures) be 'held' [or reduced] to give the vulnerable a hand up, and the economy some life? Most people say no [inflation, remember]. I say yes [remember Christchurch], but Rupert says no.
What about regulation in the crypto space? What's led to the recent run-up in price across most digital assets recently? Wasn't this supposed to be highly correlated to tech-stocks?
And that leaves the concept we touched on with Michael Every around what could happen next in NZ, if we're ready for it: infinite QE for the government [to spend on infrastructure], and higher rates for longer for the rest of us. Nasty.
