A contemporary America isn't set up to promote mutuality, care, or common life. Neither is the church. Rather, it is designed to maximize individual accomplishment as defined by professional and financial success. Exactly what the church does. I mean, I'm not reading this as a critique of the American culture. I'm reading this as an attack on the American church.
