The Anglo-Egyptian War

Said Pasha was forced to sell his 44% stake in the Suez Canal after he ran up debts. Now, you'll never guess who bought this 44% stake: The British government. With Britain now controlling a 44% share of one of the world's most important waterways, they weren't about to let these upstarts overthrow the Egyptian regime. So in 1882, Britain invaded Egypt to quell the Urabi Revolt and it is today known as the Anglo-Egyptian War. From 1882 onwards, Egypt is essentially a client state instead now of Great Britain.
